‘Plunket book’ here to stay

*29 June 2011* Following Plunket’s announcement last week of plans to pilot an innovative new information system called PlunketPlus, there has been speculation around the demise of the ‘Plunket book’. Plunket books were first produced by Plunket about 90 years ago. Since the 1980’s the books have been produced by the Ministry of Health and are now called Well Child/Tamariki Ora Health books.

Product recall - Babywise 3 in 1 car seat

*28 June 2011* A voluntary product recall alert has been issued for the Babywise 3 in 1 car seat. The harness tension lock may be faulty, posing a potential safety hazard to young children. The seats were purchased from Warehouse stores between 1 March and 24 June 2011.

Southland agencies work together to reduce family violence

*14 June 2011* A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today between Plunket, Awarua Social and Health Services, and Invercargill Police will see more positive outcomes for children and their families. Plunket Area Manager Barb Long says that better communication of information between Police and providers of Well Child and Tamariki Ora services will see more support for the city’s vulnerable families. “This is about reducing incidents of family violence and protecting our most vulnerable citizens from abuse - which has a huge impact on a child’s development, particularly in the early years.

Measles outbreak highlights importance of immunisation

*9 June 2011* News of a measles outbreak in Auckland has prompted Plunket to restate the importance of immunisation. “Immunisation is a vitally important a tool to protect New Zealand families and communities. Product recall - Edinburgh Travel and Deluxe Booster Seat

*8 June 2011* A voluntary product recall alert has been issued for the Edinburgh Travel and Deluxe Booster Seat after a small number of malfunctioning buckles were discovered. The seats, sold through Baby Factory stores, were manufactured between 1 January 2010 and 31 January 2011. These dates are stickered on the back of the seats.

Plunket and Te Kahui Mana Ririki partner to deliver parenting programme for Hamilton Māori

*1 June 2011* Plunket and Maori child advocacy organisation Te Kahui Mana Ririki (TKMR) are working in partnership to deliver a strengths based parenting programme to support whānau. Anton Blank says that TKMR developed the programme, called Tikanga Whakatipu Ririki, after consultation with more than 400 Maori providers and health and family workers in workshops held around the country. “The result of workshops has been the development of material relevant to Maori parents and children that delivers practical techniques and strategies for raising children in a loving, violence-free home.
