What is the role?
To support whānau whenever they need specialist clinical support, our PlunketLine Registered Nurses answer calls from caregivers of under fives around the clock – 24/7.
We have a range of shifts available seven days a week during the day, the evening or overnight. When working in the evenings and weekends, you’ll be rewarded for your efforts with penal rates.
The majority of our team work from home, so you can be based anywhere in New Zealand. As long as you have fast-fibre and a private space, we can provide the training you need to join our team.
Our qualified International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) also provide lactation support virtually, a crucial service to those encountering challenges in their feeding journeys.
If being the calm reassuring voice for distressed or uncertain parents sounds like your cup of tea, being a Registered Nurse in our PlunketLine team could be a great opportunity for you.
What skills do I need?
Providing good quality virtual or telehealth care requires a unique skillset and well-developed clinical grounding. You’ll need to have excellent active listening skills and the ability to ask the right questions to get the right help.
Our callers tend to be seeking our help because they are worried about their child, so you’ll need to keep your cool no matter what the situation. However, a Clinical Leader is on call for support at all times.
Do you provide training?
You’ll have a comprehensive 4–6-week orientation period (led by our Clinical Leaders).
During this time, you will be buddied with an experienced PlunketLine nurse, so you can see how they navigate our systems and manage calls. Alongside the on-the-phones learning, you'll be supplemented with education sessions to upskill in your knowledge around sleep, nutrition and behaviour and other topics we get a high volume of calls about.
Once you have completed orientation and are comfortable in your new role, you'll then do a funded one-year Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Health Care Speciality (Well Child/Tamariki Ora) Nursing.
Our Clinical Leaders will also be on hand to help support and refine your clinical judgement and decision making when referring on to other specialist services, or back through to our team of Nurses and Health Workers on the ground who can make a follow-up visit if required.
